The safe kitchen is a clean and ordered kitchen

Hello and welcome again to our blog. It’s been a while since we posted our latest post and now we want to share useful facts about kitchen appliances, cookware and all the required safety-related to that.

What’s necessary to be safe in the kitchen? Allow the professional team at Maggies Oven Services to help.

1. Fire extinguisher

It’s a must for every kitchen, no matter if it’s a commercial or a domestic one. Have the equipment placed in an easy to reach the place and always in great condition. Hope you won’t need it, but being prepared will surely save you some hassle.

2. A clean oven is one way to prevent fires in the first place

Grime and residue build-ups, especially on the heating elements can cause fires when pushed with high oven temperatures.

On top of that, they smell bad and increase the carbon footprint in our food, so they aren’t good for our health as well. In order to see tips on how to clean an oven, check some of our older posts:

3. Have no carpet in the kitchen

We all know how good these look and how comfortable the kitchen would be when carpeted, but their cleaning is a nightmare. The only chance for proper and adequate cleansing is to use professional services and stain protection afterwards.

However, the second disadvantage and in my opinion the much bigger one is related to safety. It’s easy to stumble with a carpet around and with all the sharp edges, tight spaces and boiling liquids and open fires this could be a serious issue. Hard floor is the better and easier to clean option.

NB: Mind that hard floors scratch easier, especially from heavy kitchen appliances like fridges and cookers, so be gentle when moving.

4. The way you arrange the shelves and the drawers is important as well

Make sure all heavy and sharp items to be placed as lower as possible but well protected from kids. You may lock them as well. Knives especially should be stored in a wooden block.

5. While cooking, hold the knife the proper way

Always hold the knife by the handle and in every moment when you are not cutting, hold it loosely and with the edge pointing down.

That way, even if someone scares you or another unexpected situation happens, you’ll just drop the knife and no one will be hurt.

6. The safety regulations mention the way we all should be dressed in the kitchen as well

Loose clothes and untied hair should be forbidden. Dangling jewellery can also cause similar problems, so remove them for the time cooking.

7. Wipe any spills and spillages immediately.

You don’t want to slip.

8. Raw meat and other products should be stored separately in order to avoid cross-contamination

Meats rot fast, so make sure to set it apart.

9. Whenever you clean in your kitchen, no matter if you deal with the residue in the oven, spills on the cooker’s hob or the sink, or even if you prepare the bbq for the season, always make sure to use green cleaning solutions.

However, if you cannot find such or you think they are just as good as regular chemical-based ones, wash well with running water. That is extremely important, especially if you have small kids or pets in the house.

10. Always wash your hands after cooking, cleaning or whatever else you do in your kitchen.

We really hope these tips will be helpful to you and will help you to be safer around your kitchen.
